It may sometimes be difficult for a Carer to remove incontinence pads when the patient is wearing standard Hip Protectors. The Hip Protector Holsters will remain in place while the incontinence pads are replaced. This removes the large nappy style ‘All in One’ night pads which are very easy to change.
For people who have normal underwear or netting pants to keep incontinence pads in place, it is still easy to remove the pants as they are worn over the Hip Protector Holsters. The Hip Protector Holsters allow the Carer to remove the incontinence pad or underwear, without needing to remove the Hip Protector Holsters.
If the person is not incontinent, they may still wear the Holsters and have their normal underwear over the Holsters. When they go to the toilet, the Holsters will remain in position while they remove their underwear.
Inside each Holster is a Pelican Super Soft Washable Hip Protector that has been sewn in place. The Holsters are made from special material that wicks moisture away from the body, and this feature combined with the special foam on the inside of the Protectors will help keep the skin dry. The Holsters are comfortable and soft enough for people to wear when sleeping. Many falls occur during the night when people get out of bed to go to the toilet in an unlit room. The Pelican Hip Protector Holsters can be worn in bed under most brands of incontinence pads, to give protection in case the wearer gets out of bed during the night.
To Fit
The Hip Protector Holsters are held in place with an elasticised soft Hook & Loop Tape strap which is securely fitted around the waist. The Holsters should be placed over the Greater Trochanter of each hip, so they will be in position to help protect the hip if the person falls over. Do up the waist strap around the patient. The leg straps are fitted around each leg to hold the lower end of the Holster in place.
Position the soft elasticised Hook & Loop Tape leg strap as high as possible near the groin. Thread the soft Hook & Loop Tape through the 1st loop at the bottom of the Holster and secure the strap to the ‘hook’ piece of Hook & Loop Tape on the Holster. Thread any extra strap through the 2nd loop. If the leg straps are too long, they can be cut shorter.
Once adjusted and cut to size, the Hook & Loop Tape waist and leg straps can remain fastened when putting the Hip Protector Holsters on or taking them off the patient. This is just like putting a normal pair of underwear pants on and taking them off.
